When God told Samuel to go to Bethlehem and anoint one of Jesse’s sons, it was Samuel’s cue to move forward from grieving Saul. It was a watershed moment, in which God was moving Israel towards the new king He had for them. From the story of David’s anointing, we learn a few key things about God’s plan:
1. God often asks us to let go of the old to make room for the new. Samuel had to stop grieving Saul’s kingship in order to be obedient to God. Though we don’t need to give up everything in our lives, God often calls us to surrender what was in order to step into what He has next for us.
