In His final moments with His disciples, Jesus promises them that the Holy Spirit will soon come upon them. In this first chapter of Acts, we see the disciples wait for an outpouring that will empower them to bring the Gospel to all the earth. We learn several things from Jesus’s final earthly words to His followers.
1. There is a difference between the Holy Spirit being in us and upon us. As soon as the Holy Spirit comes into us, we are saved—sealed—secure. This is salvation. The disciples had already received the Holy Spirit before Pentecost. When He fell upon them, however, at Pentecost, there was power not just for themselves, but for others they would share the Good News with from that day on!
