God Stopper: Out on a Limb Part 2A

The story of Zacchaeus has something incredible to teach us about being in the place God has assigned to you. First, let’s look at how Zacchaeus comes to encounter Jesus: Luke 19 tells us, “He ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way. When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. ‘Zacchaeus!’ he said. ‘Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.’”

Notice that Zacchaeus didn’t wait for Jesus to come to where he was. Instead, he made up in his mind to go wherever Jesus was. This is an essential principle in following God! In this case, the path Jesus was on led Zacchaeus to a sycamore tree. Running, climbing a tree, being in a crowd at all—these things were not typical for a man of Zacchaeus’s wealth and status; and yet he was willing to do whatever it took to get a glimpse of the Messiah.
