For many, this year has seemed crazy, difficult, busy, and impossible to survive. We have all felt the pressure to reach our goals and cross the finish line before December 31. What we often forget, though, is that this time of year isn’t just important because it’s our last opportunity to make this year amazing for ourselves. It’s also important because December is the month during which billions of people from all over the world come together under a common belief.
Christianity is one of the most powerful uniters that the world has seen, but it’s not just because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. It’s because years before He chose to die in order for us to have eternal peace, He was miraculously conceived in the womb of a virgin. Why is this so important? Well, without the miraculous birth, Jesus’ death would have been tragic, but perfectly normal!
One of the most powerful scriptures about Jesus’ birth is Isaiah 9, in which the Prophet Isaiah described the birth and the Messiah’s role hundreds of years before it happened. Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV) describes who this Man would become: “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
What I want to leave you with, today, is not just the importance of Christ’s birth, but also the importance of Christ’s duality; Jesus, the Messiah, was not only a Son of man, but also the living Son of God! This scripture tells us that this Man would be the author and deal of a divine treaty between God and man, through both His divinity and His humanity. His deity allowed Him to grab the hand of God, and Him humanity allowed Him to grab the hands of mankind. This ultimately allowed him to unite God and you through Him. Without being both, He could have never reached both!
So what does this mean for you? It means that your salvation and relationship with God have nothing to do with you. We cannot escape our sins, and they are what will alienate us from God. BUT JESUS IS YOUR DIVINE PEACE! John 14:27 (NKJV) says, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.” Your peace with God is not based on your behavior, but on your acceptance of Jesus’ payment for your sins. You and I can never be good enough for God to receive us. What we must do is look to Jesus.
Today, look away from yourself, and look to the Author and Perfector of your faith. Look to He who died as the punishment for your sins. Don’t look at your imperfections, look at His perfections! When you approach God based on Jesus’ name and finished works, you will never miss!
