As we prepare to venture into a new year, it’s important to evaluate the challenges and struggles we faced during the last twelve months. God uses everything for His purposes; so what were the storms you faced in 2019 all about?
I believe Satan has no greater pleasure than inflicting pain on those God loves. And my goal in this post is to encourage folks who have been harassed—people that have been troubled—people that have been harangued, in 2019. What I want to tell you is: no matter how great the pain has been…no matter how large the monsters have been…no matter how long the struggle has been…there’s a Japanese proverb that helps.
It says this: “When you come out of the storm, you’re not the same person that went into the storm. And that is what the storm is all about.”
To get through the storm, you cannot be the same people who went into the storm. You may be thinking, “Why did I go through what I went through this year?” It’s because God knows you’re not going to come out the same way. And in His wisdom, 2019 was designed to drive us to our knees.
The only way we’ll be able to get through what 2020 has to offer is by surrendering to Him and trusting His will. As He makes us more like Himself, we’ll start to see purpose even in the storms and challenges that life brings. Jesus promised that we would have trouble in this life; but He also said that He has overcome the world. Take heart, prepare for this next year, and surrender it to the Lord. That’s what the storm is all about.
