Fear. A complex word, fear can entail many things – fear of death, fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of opposition, and countless more. While these fears are each unique in their manifestations, they are common in one way: their origins. All fear originates from the same place: from within us. But it doesn’t just come about by itself – fears arise in accordance with the media, literature, and entertainment we choose to consume.
What you fill yourself up with will determine how you look at the obstacles and adversities life brings. If you’re only watching the fear-mongering news, you’ll most likely be scared at the coming events, the looming predictions, and the lasting uncertainty. When we put our trust in the predictions and advice of man, we will be caught in a vicious cycle of continued fear, uncertainty, and even confusion.
Instead, we need to be intentional to fill ourselves with something different than the rest of the world – we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit. When we fill ourselves with the Holy Spirit, we are filling ourselves with something greater and more powerful than the situations around us. When we dwell on His Word, we will find peace in His promises – no matter what may be going on externally.
In conclusion, we must choose what we are filled with. If we really want to push past the fear that exists in our lives, we must be intentional to fill ourselves with the Holy Spirit, and not the things of this world. The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear, but He has given us all we need to overcome it!
