What do you say or do when you’re at the end of your rope?
In Mark 5, Jesus heals a woman and the 12-year old daughter of the synagogue leader, Jairus. We see many miracles throughout the New Testament, but these accounts are powerful for many reasons. First and foremost, both Jairus and the woman exercised faith and believed that Jesus had healing hands before He moved on their behalf.
They also risked everything to get to Jesus. The women, who had been bleeding for 12 years and exhausted all of her earnings in search of healing, crawled through an anxious crowd in order to reach Jesus and touch the hem of his garment. Although she was considered unclean, she didn’t let that title stop her from receiving the healing power of Jesus. By contrast, Jairus was a powerful synagogue leader who had denounced the name of Jesus in the past. However, he was willing to humble himself for the sake of the healing touch needed for his ill daughter.
Despite their past missteps, flaws and shortcomings, Jesus still showed grace and compassion in each of their situations. He provided peace in the midst of their mess, and He is willing to do the same in our lives so we can experience a supernatural breakthrough. However, we must hold on, fight the good fight of faith and believe that we will be delivered in due time.
