Hebrews 10 encourages believers to hold to their hope in God, letting this spur them on towards good works in the joy of the Lord.
Here are 3 takeaways from this chapter:
- Joy is a Choice. In Hebrews 10:34, we see that the believers “joyfully accepted the confiscation of their property.” How? Because they had perspective—they knew that, if they had Jesus, they had all they needed. Joy is a choice, and truejoy is unbothered by our circumstances.
- We must Guard our Confidence. In the very next verse, it says, “So do not throw away your confidence.” This means we have been given the power and ability to maintain, or discard, our confidence. In the face of adversity, hold on to the truth of God’s word, and allow it to sustain your confidence!
- Faith brings God Pleasure. Later in verse 38, Hebrews quotes an Old Testament passage: “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” God always loves us the same; however, the pleasure and glory we bring Him can differ based on whether or not we’re fully trusting in Him!
When it comes down to it, Jesus Christ has given us power to have joy no matter our circumstances. When we remember that Jesus has the final victory, we find the freedom to live in joy, the power to remain confident, and the strength to endure!
