Psalm 27 is written by David as he flees Saul, his army, and their plans to kill him to stop his claim to the throne. While any normal person would be scared for their life as they fled the army and king of one of the most powerful nations on earth at the time, David was not. Instead, he took quite a different stance. David recognized that His God was greater than his problem.
This is evident throughout the entire chapter of Psalm 27, but is summarized in a beautiful sentiment in Psalm 27:5 (NIV) which states the following:
“For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock.”
As can be seen in the verse, David had total confidence in God’s protection – despite the forces that were looking to put an end to him. How could David be this confident? Because he was operating within the Lord’s will. When we are following the Lord’s guidance, who could possibly stand against us?
In conclusion, we must strive to be like David as we move forward. There will be things God calls us to do that are scary or even dangerous. Each of us needs to learn to trust in His protection as we follow His guidance.
