Defeating Giants

How do you respond when face to face with a giant?

How do you respond when face to face with a giant? Your giant may not be a behemoth of a Philistine man like it was for David, yet we all are bound to face giants of one kind or another in our lifetime. They come in the form of pain, adversity, and opposition. But, when we approach these situational giants with the help of our Lord and the right attitudes, we can have confidence that they will topple.

The most important part of our attitude is where we place our identity. If we find value in the things of this world, the positions we hold, or the prestige we’ve been awarded, our attitude will be brittle and easily destroyed by our enemies. But, if we recognize our identity as children of God, our attitude will be rooted in Him as well! Going forward, this will allow us to obey the directions the Lord gives us with confidence and wholehearted faith instead of fear and uncertainty.

This principle is evident through the story of David and Goliath. David trusted in the Lord and, despite what he was seeing (a seemingly undefeatable Philistine warrior giant), he had confidence in what the Lord led him to do. David had a good attitude in the face of opposition because He had faith in His God! We serve the same God – why do we not share this faith in the face of our own oppositions?

In conclusion, trust in the Lord, even when it seems like the odds are against you. As Romans 8:31 (NKJV) states, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Remember that the God who created the universe parted the Red Sea, and helped David defeat Goliath is the same God on your side. Have confidence in His plan – embrace His directions with an attitude like David!
