Oftentimes, one thing or another in our lives makes us turn from the Lord. Just like in the story of the prodigal son, we lose sight of what is truly important in our lives, and we pursue empty pleasures, glory, and sinful pursuits. Then, we think we cannot go back to the Lord, we are ashamed of our choice and think He will not accept us. But this couldn’t be further from the truth!
It was God’s grace in the first place that put us in the position we were in—it had nothing to do with our actions. We did not deserve to be in His presence in the first place, let alone now that we have turned away from Him. But by God’s grace and mercy, He allows us back! Once we own our actions, we can turn from them and get back on track!
We must learn that this is possible only by God’s grace and not our actions. When we realize the extent of God’s grace and mercy, we will run back to His open arms! Just as it states in Hebrews 4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (NKJV).” We don’t deserve it, yet God gives us grace and mercy when we approach Him!
In conclusion, we must learn that we can always go back to God for mercy and grace. We never deserved it, yet God provides it. Don’t let your past continue to tear you from God—He cares about your future in Him! Don’t put off going to Him for forgiveness, mercy, and grace. He will welcome you back with open arms!
