When the storms of life come and the winds of trouble rage, it is the foundation that keeps the house standing.  For too many of us, the storms and winds have revealed faulty financial foundations that have left us struggling to regain our footing.  No matter where we are in life, it’s critically important that we build a financial foundation.  Only with a foundation built on the Rock… built upon the wisdom of God… will we be able to weather the storms and floods that happen in life.

In 2 Kings 4, the Bible tells us of a widow who was left with nothing but debts when her husband died.  He was a son of the prophet and a man who was right in spirit, but wrong in his finances.  Although he was earnestly faithful in seeking God, he did little to provide for his family in the event of his death.  It left them in the position of nearly entering slavery just to survive.

While our walk with Christ is essential, we need to leverage the wisdom available for us.  Building a financial foundation is important to keep and preserve your family against challenges and unforeseen events.

When starting on a financial foundation for the future, I always encourage people to find an answer for three simple questions:

  • What happens if I die?
  • What would happen to my family if I had a significant illness?
  • What would happen if I lost my main source of income?

I’ve discovered that people don’t fall because of what happens to them.  They fall because they have no foundation.  Listen, life happens to us all.  But if we’re going to provide for our families and our loved ones, we need to take practical steps to make sure our financial foundation is in place.  As you begin to get in motion, I believe you’ll find the blessing of God flowing in your life.

If you want to know more or are ready to take the next step into building your financial life, I want to encourage you to take your first step towards building the financial foundation you and your family needs to make it through the storms of life with the brand new series, “Inside Information.”  It’s great to make a plan, but I want you to begin executing that plan.  I’ve given you some practical steps, but it’s up to you to begin walking them out.  Remember, God doesn’t bless a plan.  He blesses the work of your hands.

Wherever you are today… no matter what you are facing… God has a good plan for you and your family!

God bless you!

Dr. Derek Grier
