Have you ever felt like you were wrestling with God? Maybe you’re experiencing a shifting or upheaval in your life and you don’t understand why. When we first began our ministry, it seemed like every day was continual process of churning and development. It wasn’t until years later that I began to understand why God was working in me. It’s difficult in the present to understand the greater things that God is working in you, but if you will hold on you’ll see the purpose in it. You will see the Word of God come to pass.

In Genesis 32, we read the familiar story of Jacob wrestling with God. It’s important to understand that up to this point Jacob was a leader who led from behind, but always sought to supplant the person who was on top. The Bible tells us how, fearing for his life, he sent his servants and even his wives and children ahead to meet his enemy; his brother, Esau, in an effort to protect himself.

There came a point in Jacob’s life that all leaders will eventually experience. Having sent his household ahead of him, Jacob found himself confronted by God. God had to deal with the coward within Jacob.

It’s important to understand that even though Jacob contended with him all through the night, Jacob was actually fighting the wrong person. It wasn’t that God wanted to fight Jacob. God wanted Jacob to stop fighting Him. Eventually, God struck Jacob in the place of his greatest resistance. He couldn’t run away anymore.

Realizing he was hurt, Jacob stopped fighting, but he refused to give up. He held on. He won the blessing not because he fought God, but because he finally surrendered and held on to God with everything he had. It was in the process of surrender that God was able to make him into the person, the spouse, and the leader he was called to be.

I want to encourage you today to not run away from the wrestling you feel in your heart. God is working within you to transform you into the person of destiny and purpose He called you to be. If you’re ready to take your life and leadership to the next level, take advantage of my brand new leadership development series.  I’ve had the privilege of training leaders around the world and I’ve compiled what I believe to be the most essential development materials into a single series so you can get the same encouragement, training, and development right where you are and wherever you go. In this series, I’ll show you how to avoid the common pitfalls and traps that derail most leaders, mobilize your vision into reality, and tap into the unique giftings and callings God has for you!

God is ready to take you to the next level! Just like Jacob, it’s time for you to receive the blessing that will transform your life!
